Blog 2: The Day I Said “Yes” to Fear

We often think confidence comes first and action follows. But in my life, action came first — and confidence followed later.

I have always been someone who avoids the spotlight. I prefer observing rather than participating. Public speaking, leading activities, or taking initiative — these were things I quietly escaped from. It was not because I lacked ideas, but because I lacked belief in myself.

One evening, during a family gathering, someone casually suggested that I should host a small game session. My first reaction was an immediate “No.” My mind filled with doubts — What if I forget my words? What if people laugh? What if I embarrass myself?

But for once, I decided not to let fear make the decision for me.

With trembling hands and a racing heart, I stood up and began speaking. The first few sentences felt heavy. My voice was slightly shaky. But then something surprising happened — people smiled, responded, and participated enthusiastically. The more I continued, the lighter I felt. By the end, I was not just speaking; I was enjoying it.

That day, I understood something powerful: fear shrinks when we face it.

Confidence is not a magical quality gifted to a few lucky people. It is built in uncomfortable moments when we choose courage over doubt. Since then, whenever fear knocks, I try to answer with a “yes.”

Because sometimes, the person we are afraid to become is exactly the person we are meant to be.
